I have a mostly stock1985 camaro z28, it has the stock 305 in it and the only real performance mods are a 4x14" k&n and a flowmaster 80 series muffler. I want a cam but i dunno if i can go alot higher with emissions. I want that musle car rumble and was just wondering what was the highest cam i could put in a be Smog legal any ideas? Also summit has 50 state legal cams, would a cam with 208 deg. intake and 214 deg. exhaust w/ .438"Gross intake and .452" gross exhaust give more horsepower than stock or not? If so would itbe alot or? Any ideas guys

 

I picked up the biggest, baddest computer-compatible flat tappet Crane cam they listed in the catalog. I expected it to be a dog off the line and idle high enough to give the Smog ***** a thrill.

It idles at 550 RPM, pulls to 6k in my combo. Comes away from the stop lights with little company (that LS1 4th gen and turbo RX7 have been notible exceptions). I couldn't be happier with it.

Oh, the one you mentioned would also be a substantial improvement over the factory cam.

 

Yeah, that cam will add 25 or 30 hp over the stock one
