seroius problems need help asap
i have a 87 iroc 5.7 tpiwell i put finally my car back togethr and put a battery in and cranked her over. THe big problem is the car wont stay running what so ever. I found a couple vacuum leaks and now it will run but only for 10 seconds and it barely runs at that. I put on slp runners, afpr set at 40 with the key on, new plugs rotor cap and wires. I had the dist out when i did the intake and i marked where it should go back in and made sure it did. Ive checked the firing order many times and im 99% sure they are right. The gas that is in the car is almost a year old and the car has been sitting for about 5 months since ive ran it. Could i have gotten air in the fuel lines or put the dist in 180 backwards? if so how would i check both? Also will the old fuel be causing this also. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it goin and even then it has a horrible miss. when i let off it runs at 400-600 rpm barely running at all then it will almost die then surge back up then eventually die. also if you give it a lot of gas white smoke comes out the tailpipe and smells like burnt fuel.also , the 2 fuel lines that go to the front of the fuel rail, is it possible if i crossed those two lines and they are goin to opposite sides that that could cause the problem. I am completely baffled here. what could be causing this guys???? I am really puzzled and i need help asap

I'm not positive if it will help, but I remember people talking about it, before you put the distributor back in did you find TDC?

list all the work you did to the car. did you change the timing chain? if the dist. was 180 out it would be backfiring pretty bad and wouldnt run. again make sure the plug wires are correct. check your spark plugs.

i took the dist out when i redid the intake gasket and made sure to put it in back in the right position but it wouldny line all the way back up. I checked the wires and i am 99% positive they are correct. I'm goin to try timing the car if i can keep it runnin long enough. I will also check the tdc thing
I had the same problem after I replaced my intake gasket. My problem turned out to be my timing. The crazy thing is that I marked the dist, the intake, and the firewall so I could be sure to put it back in right. Somehow I still screwed it up. I would get someone to help by giving the car gas to keep it running while you check the timing again. One you get the car to run by itself then check the timing again. I was shocked to see how far my timing was off.
