Rear is whining
Rear is whining
Hey, anyone that can help me? When I crank up the car, i hear a whine from the back hatch. it continues when I'm on the road, but is only noticable when the car is in park or at an intersection. Please help....I really need it. Thanks in advance
It could be your in-tank fuel pump on it's way out. Try and listen close and see if it's coming from that area (center of the hump in the rear). That's about the only thing I can think of that's moving in the back at a stop.

My guess would be fuel pump, but sometimes the hatch motor gets stuck on and will run forever. The previous owner of my car took the motor out and made it completely manual because the motor would run even after killing the ignition and it would drain his battery.

About 2 weeks before my fuel pump went out I kept hearing a whine coming from the hatch. It was actually more like a humming noise. Your sure its not coming from the differential? Or somewhere else?

I'm not sure about the stock pump but the edelbrock EFI system came with an eletric fuel pump that has a GM part number and it consanally whines and it's been running since september with no fuel pump problems and my dad has a rustang and it's fuel pump is alawas wining and he's had it for 3 years.
A noisy fuel pump isn't necessarily a bad one. A test of pressure and flow will reveal a lot more. I had a noisy pump on one TBI vehicle for over four years, but it flowed well and made pressure. I waited for it to quit, but it never did. It's possible that the tank has shifted and the noise is now being amplified by the body and floor pan instead of being isolated.
