Please help, my monitor is stuck in low resolution mode

Hey,
I know its not thirdgen, but if I don't fix this, how will I be able to enjoy thirdgen.org?

First my computer wouldn't boot up all the way, its like it got stuck or something. After forcing it to reboot about 5 times, It finally came alive, but in low resolution mode. I tried going into display properties, settings, and chaning the resolution there, but its fixed, it won't allow me to upgrade it. What the hell do I do?

Thx,
Rob

Maybe I should add a little info:
I've had this computer for about 8 months. Its a Compaq Presario with the Athlon processor. Its running on Windows XP. I had trouble booting it up once about 3 weeks ago, but after multiple tries of re-booting (using the botton on the front) it finally came back to normal. Now this time, it had done it again, but the screen is stuck in low res mode, and its driving me nuts!

Turned out the my wife had installed a Windows update of some sort. I just removed it, and everything came back to normal.

Thx for your help!

Simple.
Reboot in safe mode. Change the resolution to what you want by right clicking on the desktop and changing the display settings to what you want.
Reboot.
Done.

Snowdog,
Tried that, did no good, it was stuck. It wouldn't allow anything to be changed. I didn't know what was up. But, uninstalled that damn'd "update", and now I'ts back to normal.

That's odd.

I had a similar problem once, and all I had to do was select my monitor again under the display settings... Drove me crazy. This was 98 though...

Yeap, 'R.O.B.' a lot of those d*** A** windows compatibilty, and MS Driver (Micro$oft makes killer GeForce 3 drivers -- pun!!!) updates will screw your OS up good. At least your sometimes given the opportunity to ADD/REMOVE them.
Watch out, cause next time you might not

This doesn't apply to the security patches
