my 87' 350 won't spin the tires off the line
I have an 87' 350 IROC with 3.27 gears, posi, Michelin Sport XGT V 245/50 16" vr rated tires, just inspected, i had the chevy dealer give it the once over before i bought it they said everything was like new and in good condition, 53,000 miles, 700r4 trans, stock.
The tires won't break loose off the line on a dry road. The car feels very strong and seems as though it should chirp from 1st to 2nd. Could it just be the wide tires and posi doing there job?
Thanks for the help,
John

Well for me, I got 2.77's and I can light them up good. BUT if it is a day like today (86 degrees), the roads are burning hot...etc
So my tires get nice and hot, and I can launch with little wheel spin and hook.
If you feel your car runs strong, I don't think you have anything to worry about

Whats the tread wear number of those tires? This # is found on the side wall of the tire. I have 245/50 also and use 400 tread wear (hard rubber) tires for driving around. I can smoke them off the rims but I also have some 150 tread wear (soft/sticky rubber) tire and I actually have to do a break stance to get them to spin. With stock engine you will chirp between 1st to 2nd if your tires are dry rotted from age or you have a shift kit. My old TCI tranny would break them totally loose (car went sideways) at the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift. This may be impressive but its hard on parts and doesn't win races. I broke a set of richmond gears with my good tires... something has to give.

Treadwear is 170, so i guess from what you are saying that is pretty soft so I really don't have anything to worry about. I guess i won't get too many miles out of these soft tires.

just curious, on your pic below your name, your car is revving at 5500 rpm, my tranny shifts at 5000, is that pic photoshopped, or are you in nuetral or does your car shift at 5500 rpm
thanks

Its probably your tires have nice tread compund and hook up nicely. you should go to a track and race down the 1/4 mile.
since you have great traction you should have one hell of a low 60 foot time. if your car is totally stock it should run like a 14.6 to 14.8 somewhere in there, with a mph of 88 to 94, since you have great hook up your 60 foot should be like 2.1 to 1.9. I wish my 1991 formula 350 would hook up, i spin when i open it up and i chirp 1-2 with my 3.23 gears. My tires aparently suck.
