Who can decode Engine Block numbers?

That casting number is just the casting of the block. It could have been in many different types of vehicles.
Get the suffix code off the block. It'll be stamped into the pad in front of the passenger side head behind the alternator. That code will tell you exactly what vehicle the block came from.
If the block has ever been decked then the stamped code will be gone.
The stamped numbers are usually hard to see. They're usually full of dirt, grease or paint.

When the top of the block is machined off to make it perfectly flat. It can also be used to make a zero deck height. That's where the top of the piston comes to the very top of the deck. Typically a piston only comes to around .030" from the top.
