Just ripped out CFI system and now...

Hey guys,

I just ripped out my CFI system and put in an edelbrock airgap and an edelbrock 600cfm carb. Today was the big day where I got to go out and test it, everything is really great except the tranmission seems to be acting up a little bit. It seems that it will not go into 3rd gear unless I really get moving (like 3700rpm) and This is really annoying because it will stay in second when I am trying to just drive like ~35mph I have not yet hooked up the TV cable because I need to get a longer one, would this cause it or is it somthing else?

Thanks,

Ben

same problem i had, untill i reconnected the cable an hour ago. Reconnecting the cable should solve it. It did in my case.

where should the cable be when the car is @ idle?... should it be in the free position (no tension) all the way in, all the way out?

Thanks,

Ben

theres a tech article on this. That should answer your questions. If you wan to release the cable some to pull it out, Sumply push teh metal tang in and gently pull the cable. it will ratchet back out. If it doesnt make a clicking sound when you go to adjust it. Push the plastic base back in and repeat the adjustment procedure. It may be overly adjusted.

I called every auto store/dealer in my city and no one has a kickdown cable for my car, the one from the CFI system is a little to short, anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks,

Ben

driving the car without the tv hooked up is incredibly stupid. Its not a kick down, it regulates line pressure.
Its trying to shift with no line pressure, thats a quick and easy way to fry your clutch packs.

You are running a 700 right? Just get a cable from any third gen with a carb and 700, upto 86 i think.

Hrmm...

Anyone know of anyway to make this thing longer? I can't find it anywhere, called all the salvage yards. I was thinking of using some sort of a bike brake cable. I duno I am lost now.

why not just cut the cable in the middle and extend it a bit with some other cable. just make sure you tie the ends really tight

i did it on my other vette when the accelerator cable snapped. i made large loops at each end, tied it tight then brazed the not into a blob of metal. Then i used some old parking brake cable to form another loop to attach the 2 peices and tied it up and melted the knot. Worked great.

They had carbs in '82 or '83 didn't they ?

If not get a 'Lokar' kick down cable. Summit sales them.
I think the 200 & 350 are the same.

Here, go check out there Website.

BTW: I've got a Lokar thottle cable, and it's realy nice. You can cut to length, and it's braided.

you could also use cable connectors that crimp onto the cable... Look cleaner than knots but getting a different cable woudl be the real soln. to your prob. And runngin wihtout it is BAADDD. My crimp on my cable came off for soem unkown reason (while driving it, of coarse) and the transmission made some real brutal shifts at 3 grand without the tv detent cable hooked up.

ah yes!

I took a brake cable (just the wire) and crimped it onto the old one and got it working now. Wish my digital cam wasn't out of batteries.

thanks for all your help,

Ben
