a/c and idling?

when i start the car while engine is still cold and the a/c is off ..it starts right up but then the a/c pulley activates after a minute then the car begins to idle up and down..does that for a minute then the pulley stops and the up and down idling stop but as the car heats up the idling up and down thing stop but the pulley continues to go off and on it never stops but when i turn the a/c on the pulley stays on..whats going on here???

Uhh...ok, so what you're saying is, the a/c is turning on and off by itself at times; but, when you put the selector lever on an a/c position, the a/c comes on and acts like it's supposed to?
As for the idle, it's supossed to idle up a little when the compressor kicks on.

Either your AC clutch idler bearing is locking up or the HVAC coneols are cycling the compressor on and off. Remove the electrical connector from the clutch to see if the phenomenon still occurs.
