Proform Shift Light Question
I am thinking of purchasing proform adujustable shift light, and was wondering about the wiring of it. I know it is going to require me to hook it up to the tach wire on my distributor. I want to retain my stock tach and this light at the same time; so can I run my stock tach wire and the shift light wire together into my distributor? Will both still run correctly? It is possible to have this hooked up and my stock tach hooked up at the same time isnt it?

Basically the question is it okay to have two tach input wires on one output?
Yeah, I'd like this one answered too. I'm considering buying the same light.
As far as I can tell from your setup, Brody, you must be trying to copy me! We have pretty similar cars. Or at least we will when I'm done all my work.
Any ideas on what yours runs?

nawww i think you are copying me. i ordered the light sunday night so we will see by saturday if it works out. i estimate mid high 14s in the quarter although there are no tracks near me, yet. they are halfway done building a 1/8th mile track so i guess i will have some times in a couple months.

i dont really understand that either. i will just splice it right before the distributor where i know i will be getting the right wire.

Yeah, I did this with an AutoMeter shift-lite. Just splice in to the wire coming off of the 'tach' post on the distributor. On a stock HEI, I believe it's the rear one.. it is marked in any case. Green wire, i think. The signal comes from the distrubutor, not the tach, so you can splice in anywhere between the two. It's a pain in the butt with a TPI cause there's no room, but I see you have a carb, so it should be easier. Less than an hour, start to finish.
Yes, it works just fine. I have the same Proform light. However, a buddy of mine had to have 3 of them shipped to him before he got one that worked. They are definately cheap, but still work.
Instead of splicing the wires, I just made a small "y-harness" where I used a several of the blade style connectors a short piece of wire and kept my stock harness intact.
I like the fact that I can "dial" the rpm I want, and not depend on having the correct "pill" like the MSD. And no matter what one you get, it will help your consistency.
