Vortec cylinder heads + Edelbrock performer intake?

Ok, I was thinking of aluminum Edelbrock heads... long story short I need to bore out the 'ol LG4 to use the damn things... SO I thought Vortec!

So, my question is: Do vortec heads accomodate my Edelbrock performer intake? Or do I need to buy the Vortec intake manifold which has an identical dual plane square bore setup?

Yes, you have to use a Vortec style intake. Nothing but nothing matches from one to the other

There is an alternative to buying the Edelbrock performer for Vortec heads.

This manifold is made by Professional Products

I would say buy the vortecs and the edelbrock performer or performer rpm intake designed for the vortecs. For the a little over the cost of edelbrock heads you can buy the reworked vortec heads from wheeler motorsports and the edelbrock intake. And you will probally be happier.

I am not sure how they work with the 305 but check out the numbers the stock vortecs show with a 400.

mods:
5.7 rods, 12cc dished Hyp. piston, Vortec heads, CompCams XE-268 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM vortec intake, Edelbrock 750 carb, MSD HEI, Blue max 8mm spark plug wires, bosch plat. plugs, Hooker 1-5/8 shorty header, and a hooker 3" exhaust.

RPM TQ HP
1500/363/104
2000/406/155
2500/426/203
3000/446/255
3500/456/304
4000/454/346
4500/451/386
5000/424/404

titeride85: Love those Vortec heads. Loads of usable torque.

Where did you get that dyno test from?

So, is 64cc too big for a 305 or will my compression remain pretty much the same. I want to retain the compression I have for obvious reasons... there isn't a blower in the future

I guess I'll buy the heads then intake and hock my intake on ebay when the time comes to replace.

The heads need to be milled down to at least 58 cc. Otherwise you will have a CR good enought to slap a turbo on there....

So, is there an advantage to using these heads if they can be milled down? I plan to put in a nice .460 lift cam or so...

chillphatcat, if you are going to get vortecs and you want that lift...buy the august Chevy High Performance to read the article on the vortec head spring situation. The simple solution is to order the worked heads from wheeler. They arent much more than the stock.

F-BIRD, I had someone run a program similar to but better than DD2000. It is called engine analyzer. wingnut here on the boards has it. call him out, he may do something for ya.

That's ok. I have that program and most of the others.
I thought it was a real dyno test and just wanted to know the source.

If you go here..... www.enginekits.com ..... then download their catalog, then go to page 10, they show a Vortec intake for $129.95

Or if you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, then click here.... http://www.enginekits.com/cat2002.pdf

I noticed their ad in CHP magazine. You may want to call them to find out more about it. It sounds too good to be true

It says it's good from idle-5500RPM, so don't expect to make gobs of HP with it. But for a street/torque motor, I can't see why it wouldn't be fine.

The only concern I would have is to make sure it's not an intake which they've modified to fit Vortec heads. That can be done, but the height on the intake runners on the Vortec heads won't allow enough gasket material to be used if it's an older style manifold.

As a matter of fact, I think I may call them tomorrow.

OH.... I forgot.... if you look directly to the right of that intake listing, you'll see that you can ge the "show polished" version for $160.
