Rear Main Seal Bolts

I recently got my 3rd gen and I was just changing my oil and noticed a leak around my rear main seal, I then noticed that 3 of the bolts that hold the 2 peices around the seal together are missing! Can anyone tell me what size these are so I can get new ones? BTW its a 5spd. Also will I need to put a whole new seal in or will just putting in all the bolts fix the leak?

um... uh.... you sure you know what you're looking at? I'm not super familiar with 1-piece blocks but I don't think there's ANYTHING visible back there. All of the bolts for the RMS should be covered by the oil pan. Does a 1 piece even have bolts? Isn't it just pressed into the block? I thought that was the whole point to the 1 piece?

i think you're both confused. the piece that hold the rear main seal in is one piece on all the gm engines i've worked on. if i recall correctly there is one nut and 3 bolts, 5 or 6mm i think. i'd go to a gm parts dealer and order what i needed from them. you wouldn't of been able to see the rear main seal or it's houseing by changing the oil, you'd need to drop the trans.

I'm not too familiar with cars altogether BUT ok I will try to explain it. The bolts hold together 2 pieces that are on the back of the block, Like near the front of the bellhousing, Around the clutch or something around there I would assume. And it is leaking oil. Any ideas?

i doubt what you're look at is the main seal, i also doubt if what you see is leaking. i'll bet the leak is somewhere else and dripping where you're looking. sorry but i can't quite figure out what it is you're looking at. maybe the sheet metal shield for the flywheel.

YES! That sounds right! It's very think metal and bolts onto the bellhousing. What else would be leaking though? The entire tranny is coated in oil. Any ideas?

Wipe it all off and try to find it after running it a while.
