Trying to Remember How it All Fits

Am having a dilemma: 1987 Trans Am Formula, new 5.7L TPI, 5 speed manual Borg Warner, 3.45 posi rear end, SLP cold air induction. The engine I originally had in this car (5.0 HO TPI), got so hot all connections anywhere near the engine are completely destroyed, as were all the sensors on the block, intake and fuel injection. The block, heads, intake, exhaust manifolds, and the fuel inejection are able to be salvaged, but I have put a new engine in the car. My question is, now the engine is in, the power steering pump, alternator, water pump and all that good stuff is installed and I have figured out what sensors/senders were destroyed and they have been replaced. However, I have about a gazillion electrical connections that aren't recognizable even though I labeled the general area they went when I tore the car apart. It has been 3 years since I tore the blown engine out. I have alot of questions regarding what some of the connections are, where they go, etc. I work at a GM dealership and I have every service manual imaginable and plenty of techs at my disposal but we still can't figure the puzzle out. Does anyone out there have some good diagrams of the underhood components that I may not have already seen? Does anyone have photos of their underhood they'd be willing to share with me so my 'Bird can fly again? Thanx a million!

if you can't figure it out with the resources you have at work i don't think you'll figure it out here. shouldn't be too hard, get another harness and replace the burnt one. very few if any of the sensers or senders have the same type connection or length.

Thunder,

Typically, if you consider the number of conductors in a connector and the wire colors and sizes that are at each connector, you should be able to identify them easily. The factory schematics have all that data. Finding replacements shouldn't be too difficult either. The biggest chore will be installing them.

thanx

thanx for the tips guys. guess i should be more clear - it's more a question of how everything is routed in relation to everything else than what plugs into what. I did manage to snag a parts reference book from the parts dept and that's helping. as you all know, there's more than a few wierd little brackets that bolt here and there and that's what's really hurting me LOL. but for the most part it's going back together nicely. the biggest nasty job so far has been putting on the passenger side exhaust manifold - that rear stud is a nasty #%$@&*@ LOL but seriously thanx for your thoughts.
