sitting 10 years

I am getting an 83 T/A for free from a friend of mine that used to own a car lot. well anyways the car has been parked there since 93 or 94 but is still in good condition and has 40k on it. What would be the first steps to getting this car back in good running condition ( i havent tried yet but im pretty sure it wont run). Also I have an 89 v6 firebird that keeps giving code 34 and i replaced the mass air sensor like 2 weeks ago and its still giving me them

First thing I would do is replace all fluids, engine oil, tranny fluid etc.

Replace ALL of the fluids (including fuel) and hoses . Pull the distributor and prelube the engine with a hand drill.

Squirting some oil into the spark plug holes couldn't hurt, either, and might make for a great smoke show. See if you can spin the engine with a breaker bar, too, to make sure the rings aren't frozen. Squirting some oil in the plug holes might help some sticky rings. I hear that "marvel mystery oil" is supposed to be good with sticky/frozen rings, too.

Once you get it going, don't forget that you gotta STOP. At least check or replace the o-rings in the brake calipers and rear wheel cylinders if drums. Sitting almost 10 years they're probably dry and hard which won't do you much good. It's a cheap fix that most people don't think about until it's too late.
