Help me diagnose a problem ?

First, I drive an 88 Camaro with the TBI 305. I drive my car for about 10 minutes to where the motor temperature evens out at 180 degrees. When the motor is heated up, if I punch it too hard my car makes a wierd grinding sound and I lose ALOT of power. My SES light comes on and there is almost no throttle response what-so-ever. It feels like my motor is just idling when I'm in overdrive. With the SES light off and everything running right I raced a friends 90 Skylark and won by like 6-7 car lengths. With the light on and experiencing my problem I raced him again and lost by about 1-2 car lengths. If I turn my car off for just a second and restart it, the light goes off and everything is fine but as soon as I punch it again the SES light comes on. My best guess is that my oxygen sensor messes up my car when the computer starts to take readings from it. It kinda feels like my fuel pump isn't keeping up with the motor but I don't know why it would work after I restart it. I think I can hear my car start to lean out when I get around 2000 RPM's. Anyone else got a guess?

Check your TB. Sounds like you aren't getting the Power enrichment shot that its supposed to supply. Sorry I am a TPI guy but thats what it sounds like to me.

Okay, I checked my SES light and it says it is the knock sensor and fuel system. So, could it be my fuel sending unit (I hope not) or fuel pump? I just had the fuel filter replaced about 3,000 miles ago and the problem didn't happen as often after I did this. Could my oxygen sensor just think my car is leaning out too much and the comp thinks that my fuel system is messed? I think my knock sensor only goes off because my engine runs way lean. I have no clue really, any more help would be really appreciated.
