How much would you spend to buy another broken one just like yours?

That's how much you should spend on one from a junkyard.

Maybe you could make one good one out of 2 worn-out ones, for a little while, if the same parts weren't worn out on both of them.

Just go get a new one man. Get a lifttime warranty from autozone or somethin. Why go out and get one you don't even know if it works that has no warranty. Spend a little extra and do it right the first time. If you don't you will regret it when this one goes out on you. They are not that expensive.
