Camshaft end play?

I put the cam in the block today and then put on the retainer, I can move the cam about .260” . Manual shows that it should be .004” to .012”, so can I just knock the rear plug in to get it were it should be.
Anything to watch out for when doing this?

92 305 roller cam block with a Comp cams roller cam.

Thanks

Ok I found out that I was checking it wrong, the service manual is a little confusing on it.

I put the gear on and it's right were it needs to be.

Vader I was talking about that plate that bolts to the front of the block and the nose of the cam sticks out of.

I am so embarrassed, but it is my first roller block and cam, thanks guys.

Thanks, but I know what the retainer plate is, and what it should look like. I should have phrased the question differently, such as: "In what condition is your retainer plate?"

Sorry I got lazy with the grammar...

Now I understand what you were asking as I was surprised that you asked that.

It looks like new, no wear from what I can see. It sits flat on my flat plate that we have at work so I know its not warped.
