you could take the whole shebang out and leave it out
take the tops of for instant ac.
it saves oodles of weight.

well to my knowledge if u take the compressor off u will have to get the R-12 recharged. if u look by that aluminum can there are lines comin off of it and on the lines there are black capas and uncer them are things that look liek tire stems and thats wut that are. wut i woudl do it wrap a towl around it and put a glove on and puch the pin n with a screw driver till the pressue stops comin out and do it to all the lines and u should be alright to take off the compressor. oh and by the way how much is a new compressor cause i need to get one also

i got mine for $100. I work at an auto parts store so i saved about $25. I also purchased a new accumulator and orfice tube. Had to get them to warranty the compressor.
SO does anyone know about the high or low side pressure?

You add coolant to the opening in the aluminum canister attached to the firewall.

It would be better to retrofit and go R134. R12 is horribly expensive and soon won't be available, period.

The old school way to fill it(back when r12 was 89c a can) was to add freon until the compressor stops kicking in and out. If you have guages, fill until the low side is around 40 psi with the car running and compressor kicked-in.
