question about engine

I know that a 350 is a 5.7 engine. But do the engines (350) from different manufacturers have difference in HP? I have a 350 engine and the guy that I bought it from sayes it is out of an Oldsmobile!

Thanks.

Yes, there are quite a bit of difference in horsepower ratings from different manufactures and years and such. For more info about your engine, what year Oldsmobile did it come out of?

Thanks for your replyes. I called the guy I bought the car from but he also knows that it is just an olds engine and thats it. Can I identify it buy the serial number? If so where can I find them. Are the numbers on the same place as the chevy engine or somewher else?

Some Olds cars came with Chevy engines, and some came with Buicks, besides Olds motors.

Let's see... a few things to identify one with...

If it's a Chevy, the water pump will be on 2 legs sticking out in front of a sheet metal timing cover; if it's Olds or Buick the water pump is a flat cast aluminum piece that covers the front of a cast aluminum timing cover. If it's not a Chevy, a Buick has the oil pump in the timing cover, it's a piece of sheet steel covering over a projection down low ont he pass side; an Olds doesn't have that.

Oldsmobile engines have the oil filler in the front, right in the center.

Yep the oil filler is in front and in the middle. The only numbers I found from the engine were 411 829. And they were on the side of the engin. Anybody have any idea what they mean?

Some of the Oldsmobile engines have the cubic inches stamped on the side of the block. It would have something like 260, 307, 350, 403 etc.....

Hope this helps

No! I said some of the Olds engines had the CID stamped on the side of the engine. Actually it is raised numbers. Is the motor blue or gold?
