I am gonna buy this car on saturday

He wants 8000, but I think i can get him down to 6000 after i take a look at it. Then I can sell my car (notice sig) with all the parts for 3000 to put a dent in my debt.
What do you think this car can beat?
looks like a scary drive and a low 11 sec car.

well, i figured i am sinking everything inot my car now...might as well take out a loan. Make 1.77 a month payments, and never have to worry about making the car faster. you would do the same if you were closer. Plus the payments will go way down with a 3000 dollar dent. I just need to slap a new alternator on my car and tune the carb a bit (floats need adjusting). and it will be a nice car. Too bad since I spend an arm and a leg on the interior

His grandfather built it.
I am gonna drive the car for at least 45 min. to see if it overheats, and the AC works. and hear pinging or what not. I don't know how knowledgable his father was, but I have no time to learn this stuff. All I did was what was in my sig. I didn't drop the engine in though, or do the cam. My experience is in changing brake pads, carb installation (i'm working on tuning), and interior work. I don't even know how to change my bellts
All I need it for is 1 year then i'm gonna sell it.

yeah, I thought of that. I am gonna call him tomorrow and ask.
But does it seem like a pretty good deal at 6000. It doesn't have tranny specs, so i am hoping at least a turbo 400. That would be the only one to take the munishment form the 427.
Also, I know it can't be pushing 520 HP because it has to be street legal in NJ. That means power robbing exhaust and mufflers. That would mean that the car isn't street legal and thus the price goes way down. Plus i think you can only go with 1 3/4" headers in the engine bay without having to cut the strut towers. That would choke out the 427...right?
So I am guessing 400 RWHP

Sometimes as they say, "if its to good to be true, then it probably is". That looks like a sweet car, and a good price. I dont know if u looked at the car yourself, but do that, test drive it, floor it to man. Its always best to see it for yourself. I never really trusted getting stuff off the internet, but then i again i managed to buy my car off autotrader.com. But that was me driving an hour away just to see it, test drive it, and finally made up my mind to buy it, which actually was like 5 seconds after i saw the car upfront
Besides doesnt Ebay have some sort of protection for the buyer if the seller claims things and they aint what he said. But either way good luck with that car, and if it dont work out, theres another 1000 3rd gen waiting to be bought.

ebay...hells no
I told the guy he won't get 8000 for it unless a tenny bopper with a wad of cash shows up. No one will overbid the 8000 price, and if they do then i won't buy it (duh). So this sat I'll buy it for about 6 grand or 6500. I'll give him 6500 for it amybe a bit more if he gives me a bill of sale for 500 bucks
That is not a far off price for an 85 camaro...stock that is. So if I can save money there it will be worth it. I got duped into buying my car for 3500. I knew nothing really about cars, so the fact that it had a new (15000mi) 350 made it seem reasonable. But buying mine taught me a lot and I made good friends with a guy from the Chevy dealership and he helped me work the kinks out. I thought i had a good car till the summer. So much hot air comes out of the console form the holes in the firewall for wiring that weren't plugged right.
And if it doesn't run really hot for a not even broken into 427 then I'll feel good about buying it for 6500.

well if its a 427 *big block* it wont fit in the engine bay without a bigger hood. but more then likly its a Small block 400 bored to a 427. is 520 hp happening.. ask him to get it dyno'ed before u buy it to see the truth behind it. as u can see in my sig below 520 HP is easy to do in a 400 sbc cause right now im pushing 500 flywheel GP and 550'ish tq *note.. if i ever get those fricken 30lb'ers, the hp will be right around 440 RWhp and 480-500 RWtq. which is an easy 550 hp *flywheel* 600 Tq *flywheel*
Actually, doing a SBC to a 427, would need a special block..not just a bored out 400.
Here is some common stroker 400's:
400 3.75
420 3.875
434 4.0
So unless he can show it's a Motown block or such, I'd be leary of him calling it a 427.

Big blocks can fit under a stock hood. Someone in FL did it not too long ago. He had to use a low rise intake to get it done, which probably isn't a 520 hp intake. I'd say that guy is a big fat liar. There's no way to know for sure w/o seeing it in person. 520 out of a BBC 427 is pretty easy. Easy being extremely hard if you don't know what your doing or don't want to spend the money. As far as being in the 11s, keep dreaming. You'd need a lot more power than that to run on street tires. With slicks and the right tranny maybe. Ever see an 11 sec car launch?
is it me or is the exhaust not symetrical in the back? and on another note...i always thought BBC had them BIG valve covers. the ones on that car look like the ones on most SBC's...also who in the world would build a 500+hp BBC car nad leave the AIR CONDITIONING in it??

Boy I don't know for sure but I am going to pull it
. I don't think there is a true 520hp out of this engine, if so it maybe internal but definatly not RWHP. And a 427 small block isn't going to be too safe unless it's a Motown Block (too much boring on a 400) And with only 300 miles on it why would the guy sell the car???????????

This same car was on ls1.com, I've wrriten a post over there. I'd stay away from that car, someone he mentions a 400$ oil pan, but mentions nothing about the aftermarket block he'd have to use to reach 427. The says Isky cam, but no specs. He wrote some good name brands, but how does that determine 520 horsepower? Without alot of reciepts and specs, I wouldn't waste my time.

I agree. Just this morning I read an article where a 427 SBC was made out of a stock block, with a 4.0" stroke Lunati Rotating Assembly, with 6" rods. The block can be stock. If it is not, he is a fool for not stating so.

EDIT: Let me correct myself. I've always heard them called "siamesed runners".

Whatever. Saimese this.
It's a small block, plain as day. Says so in the text, sort of; and that's clearly what's in the pics. As mentioned above, a stock 400 block at std 4.125" bore with a 4.000" stroke gives 427 CID; it can be done with the right rods with relatively little hassle. It has some kind of 3-piece intake or the like in the pic, looks like a Brodix to me, but I can't tell for sure. Can't tell what the heads are at all. There's a dual fuel feed line, looks like the Mr G one for a Holley 4150 with center-hung bowls. One thing I do know for sure, if that hood closes on that air cleaner mounted on that intake and carb, the lid is touching the top of the carb. The motor might dyno 520 on a stand but not in that chassis. Talks about Crower rods & Wiseco pistons, mis-spelled in both cases, so who knows. "Pro Series" heads might means Dart Pro, or Pro Action, or... again, who knows without looking more closely than the pic. Probably has body damage on the nose, as is usually the case when someone sells a car with one of those stupid black sheets stretched across the front of it in the pics they publish. Looks like it was a LG4 car to me, FWIW. At least it has 16" wheels.
I don't think I'd buy it off e-Bay sight unseen, but it might merit a drive-by if you're the kind of person that has a good bit of experience with hot cars... instinct tells me that this one is either a serious parts-shredder if it's running right, or has issues that need some sorting out. 300 miles isn't much time to get a street machine of this nature dialed in by a casual amateur.
