window motor?
window motor?
Recently I have been having a problem with my window. It would start to go down then stop midway. If i wait a minute, then it would go down some more. It is like the motor is overheating or something. Does anyone know what the problem is? If it is the motor, what is involved in replacing the window motor?
Thanks a lot,

When the window motor starts wearing out it does overheat and the thermister opens the circuit, disabling it until it cools off. After a few minutes you can usually move it again. It will get worse.
Same symptoms I had in my 92 RS and 91 S10 Blazer.
You'll have to replace the motor.
Good news is motors are pretty cheap. I mail-ordered mine for $39 each brand new.
Bad news is that installing them is not fun.
There's a tech article on how to do it (on this website)
I had so much fun doing the Camaro's motors, I had a friend at a dealership install the motors in my Blazer for $100 (I bought the motors).

Ouch $100?! i got charged $70 for installation of a fan clutch, i should become a mechanic.... but yeah the window motor was a pain in the @ss. took me 11 hours, but i was working alone and started at 1 am. i think i spend about a 2 hour haze cursing at the damn thing. Probably could do it in about an hour if i actually had the rubber wedges to hold up the window, now that i know what im doing. Its really not such a hard thing if you know what your doing (and have a third hand to hold up the window while reattaching the motor.)

You definitly need a new motor. That's exactly what mine did. My advice,....let someone else put it in. I still haven't got my regulator spring back on yet.
After 3 hours of tryin, and a box of band-aids later, I just put my door panel back on and threw the spring in the trunk. Since I'm here, I'm gonna go ahead and ask........How the heck do you get that stinkin thing back on? Is there some trick I'm missing here, or a tool I can aquire to help me?

yeah, the spring is a pain, it flipped out on my when i took the motor out and i couldnt figure out how it went back on. Well eventually i got it. You need to figure out wich way it goes back on first, and then crank the big thing with the gears around a bit to give it some initial spring tension. Then i just threw a rod (screw driver) inbetween the hole in the big thing, and the main body part, it really doesnt matter how you do this, but you just need to get the whole thing to not snap back on you while your re-bolting or re-fastening the motor back on. then when the motor is back on you can pull the screw driver or whatever back out, and the motor will hold it all in place. Then the pain in the *** part is to get the whole damn thing back into place in the door panel.

That's wonderful information hilljack,.......but...........I've kinda sorta already got the motor in place already and working...Is there any way of gettin that blasted thing back on once the motor has been mounted? I mean,....it works fine and everything, but I'm sure GM thought it was important, or they wouldn't have put it there in the first place. Any info or new ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!
heh, well as long as it works... i dont know of any way of getting the spring back on there with the motor in the window... Where did you get your new motor? cause i got mine from Advanced Auto and they come with a life time warrenty, so if you happen to have a lifetime warrenty, i say screw the spring, and just wait till it dies again. Either way, your gonna have to take the assembly out, might as well wait till you absolutely have to. All the spring does is counteract the weight of the window, so rolling it down must be fast, but rolling it up will put a lot of strain on the motor and cause it to go bad quicker. Other than that, i dont really know what to tell ya. sorry.
