Anybody make an aftermarket 58cc head?

All the heads I see are 64cc, 67cc, 70cc, and 76cc, 'cept for LT1 stuff and the World Torquer 305s. I'm building up a regular old 350 and right now I'm using stock 305 heads. I'm gonna be running right around 10:1 and I'd like to keep the compression right where it is. I could probably find myself some overly expensive ported Corvette heads, but I was just wondering if anybody actually makes an aftermarket 58cc head.

Don't know of any 58cc after market heads for a 350, but you should be able to pick up a set of used 'vette aluminum heads for less than a pair of after markets. And with that cr, aluminum is the way to go.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a chance to get some 64cc heads for a good price. How much do the vette heads go for?

59 cc Heads

I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE 58 CC ALUMINUM CORVETTE HEADS USE A THICKER HEAD GASKET THAN THE 64 CC IRON HEADS WHICH DROPS THE COMPRESSION RATIO SOME.
I RUN 64 CC HEADS ON MY 350, ADVERTISED AT 9.6:1 AND I RUN FINE ON 92 OCTANE.
LOL

Check out tpis I know they have a 58cc afr casting aluminum head but it's about as much as ported afr's (1,800 pr) I think they have other heads to like corvette heads.

You can make your own 58cc heads from 64cc or 67cc versions. It's called "shaving". Typically around .007"/cc.

Thanks for the tip. Is that something a machine shop has to do or can it be done like porting?

That's a machine shop job. They take a small amount of material right off the bottom of the head.

K thanks, do you think it would be worth it to go from 64cc to 58cc?

some heads can't be cut more than about .030"

Most aftermarkets can go more bc of the thick deck. Compression can get very close to 11 to 1 in a 350 with a 58cc chamber and flattop. Thats pushing pump gas pretty hard.. cam timing will determine if it will run on pump or not.

I just want around 10:1 compression. I hear that works very well with high octane pump gas.

In DD2000, with that compression, I'll be around 384hp, which I would be very happy with.

Don't forget, if you shave the heads you very well may have to shave the intake manifold to match, or else it won't seal properly.

If you shave (also called "milling", BTW) enough to get down to 58cc, then the intake manifold should definately be milled to match. Any competent machine shop should know what to do.

My heads have been milled 3 times but I have a perfect seal between them and my Performer intake. So it depends how much you mill them. Mine were only milled .007 (James Bond, ya know?) this last time.

Previously, I can't say but probably the same each time. Just enough to true them up from end to end.

I've got a set of the Edelbrock heads. They're aluminum street legal heads with a 60cc combustion chamber. they've got 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves.

They're really nice. If you're looking for an aluminum head with a small combustion chamber to maintain a higher compression, and a DIRECT bolt on for 87-later car it's great!
