I just rebuilt my distributor, new GM pickup, accell modual and coil, cap rotor and gear.

ran fine for a while, ran it up to 6000 great feels better than the original did, idles better too. today on my way home from work i rev past 3500 and the tach starts bouncing all over the place, up down at least 1000 rpm , it sfine under 3500 though.

Go back to your project and check all the connections at the coil and HEI module - especially the grounds. Also check the connections (grounding) of the little condenser-looking device in the distributor base. My guess is that the Accel amplifier/switch module is switching higher voltage than the tach filter can tolerate, but that's just a guess.
