Should cam lube be real runny like mobil 1??

I bought a XE268 and I am putting it now, and the cam lube that came with the cam is VERY runny (also bright red).. the last time I installed a cam, I used Crane cams lube, and it was very thick like Molybedenum grease.

Does this sound like I'm using the right stuff?

Doesn't sound like any assembly lube I have ever used. Did you "squish" the packet around before opening it to make sure it was mixed up good?

It should be thick so that it sticks to the cam almost.

as soon as you start the motor all the excess "gooey" lube is just squished off anyway...

the skim coat on the surface of the lobes is what's important

It's fine, that's what they're supplying these days, it's usually thicker than gear lube but nowhere near as thick as something like moly grease...

As long as you got the lobes coated with it, you're good to go.

Yeah that red gooey stuff is fine. Don't worry about it as long as it's coated well.

if you're real worried about it you can just grab a drill and prime the oil pump yourself...
