Oil pressure
Oil pressure
My car has a carb. 350 and turns 3,000 rpm going down the highway. It runs about 65 psi when it's warmed up and about 85 psi when it's cold. Why so much pressure? Is this a problem? I haven't blown out any seals yet, but I'm not sure if I will or not.

you may have too much oil, or may be running too heavy of a weight of oil.. 85 psi is a bit excessive.. 65 is about right for hard running at a decent rpm but you should be at about 30 psi at idle..
the oil pressure sending unit could be bad. Sometimes it will give you a wacky reading like that, mine used to do the same type of thing then eventually it started bouncing all over the place. try replacing it. not hard to do . hope that helps

yep thats the most likely cause...my stock sending unit doesnt work for **** it always shows at about 80+psi but with an aftermarket mechanical gage hooked up it reads 20-30 at idle n 60-65 at about 3500 or so

are you running mostly stock components? that oil pressure reading sounds way way too high, oil should be pratically squirting out where the gaskets use to be with that kinda pressure.. maybe it is a falty gage or something along those lines.. is it mechanical or electrical?
