3 Block choices. I want to run low 12's
3 Block choices. I want to run low 12's
I am building a new motor this winter for my car. Now here is the part I can't decide on. I have a 400(non-roller), 350 4bolt(non-roller) and 350 2 bolt(roller). now I want to keep my TPI for now it is modified as my sig. says. I plan on buying a new crank, rods and pistons. and about 10:1 compression. I'm going to put in 3.73 or 4.10 gears also. also it will have aluminum heads too. which block should I go with to get to my goal? thanks
THis is a question I have been Mulling over myself for some time, And I have come to this conclusion.
Take the 2 bolt Roller 350 block, and stroke it to 383.
You Will Be down 17 CI on the 400, but maintain the same stroke as the 400. I belive that the Ability to use A roller cam w/o the added cost will more than make up for the slight loss in displacement.
Forget the 4 bolt 350 flat tappet. The days of the 4 bolt block are done.

Whatever you choose to use, the limiting factor will still be the TPI. It will be maxed out at around 5500 rpm so building a big motor that wants to spin higher will not be productive.
my engine since I've done all the porting is pulling VERY well to over 7000rpm. its power range is now like 3000rpm - 7000rpm. I also plan to get a supperam, but I'd just like to run 12's (mid or lows if possible) on my modified TPI

Don't use the 400, throw it away and then tell me where you through it!! I would use the 400, and stroke it. Then find your self a good tranny and rear. 350 are nice because of the parts, and the 4 bolt are not dead. Whick ever block you want to go with will be up to you, and you have good ones to pick from.
