Car won't start , i donno what to do
I woke up this morning and my car won't start, it ran fine last night , didn't have any problems starting up till today. the fuel pump is alright i hear it come on, and i have pressure at the lines.
the problem i found so far is that it has no spark at the plugs, the wires are new so i susupect the problem to be either the coiul or the rotor. how could i check ???
thanks

where is the igniton module located?, is it on the right rear of the engine block, above the valve cover (cyl 5)? , and if it is how would i be able to take it off and check it

Does the starter turn over when you turn the key, or are you simply getting nothing? If you don't get anything at all, and your battery is fine, the solenoid on the starter probably went bad. You'll need a new (reman.) starter... ~$45 with the old starter. If the starter is turning over but the engine won't crank, the starter isn't engaging the flywheel. If the engine is cranking but not firing up, it's either an electrical or fuel problem. No spark could be anything on the distributor. Cap, rotor, coil, or the distributor itself. Check the fuel pump, lines, etc if you still haven't found the problem. Hope this helps; let us know what you find.
k, here's what i found:
-I've replaced the coil and dist and now im getting spark at the plugs.
-The engine is cranking, and the flywheel is getting engaged.
-fuel is getting in there, cuz sparks are getting wet, and i hear the pump come on.
-The cat isnt pluged cuz i took the O2 sensor out and it still won't start.
-the battery is full
The ECM is displaying code 34, which is MAF sensor; open/short in circuit; defective ECM. I've swapped the ECM and MAF with a spare one i have in my garage, still won't help. gives me the same code, and won't fire up.
im running out of ideas here, i'm even beginning to suspect sugar in the gas tank
(btw, how do i check for that )
any ideas on what i can check next ???
EDIT : it's an 88 camaro MPFI 2.8 v6, 5spd
EDIT: i've also found a black wire (grounded ) which is torn right behind the dist . i've looked around and can't find anywhere where it might belong, what could it be ?

another thing i found was that when i crank the engine it shows the rpm jumping all over the place, its generally shows to be around 500 rpm, but ocassionaly will jump to over 5000, does that mean anything ?

Do you have compression?
I had an old S-10 with a 2.8 in it and it died due to no compression on 3 cylinders. I never fixed it just sold it, I hated that thing anyway!!

My 3.1 Camaro has the ICM that will always keep dying in it. I replaced my first one a month ago, and whaddya know, its dead again, I have to fix it today. What causes these to go bad. By the way, if you have no spark, and your coil is fine, check the power coming out of the distributor to the coil, thats your ICM, if its dead, it aint workin and you should replace your ICM, the black chip inside your distributor.
