Dampener hits the timing chain cover!

I put some oil on the crank shaft to aid the install of the harmonic dampener. Now I can't tq down the nut to 70ft #'s with out it pushing the balancer back to the timing chain. Anyone else have this problem? I'm at a complete loss.

Does it just bottom out? I'm a little afraid of f***ing things up. The Lt1 gave me enough headaches w/ clearence problems.

FB,

Even on the LT1, the balancer hub should bottom on the crankshaft timing sprocket. If I remember correctly, there is a forward and backward to the crank sprocket as well:
