Which Head Gasket to get?

Hey Mark...which Goodwrench crate engine do you have? I'm curious because I have the L05 and I know my pistons are dished (that explains the 8.3 comp ratio...yuk). If I have everything else correct, the dish on pistons should be around 20-25 cc.
This would also be handy for me to find the deck height. I suppose I'll measure that with a depth mic when I have it out.
The Dart heads I got said to use a Fel-Pro 1003 with a .041" compressed thickness. I guess this would put me out of the quench clearance. Why does it need to be between .030-.045?

Just a note on reusing head bolts, don't. They're designed as torque once, after that, they're junk no matter how many miles. I've seen a few heads done with reused head bolts and each time blown head gasket. The reused bolts do not torque down correctly. It's all because head bolts stretch a bit when torqued and stressed. It's a few extra dollars for some piece of mind, you can get only the head bolts as I recall, or a complete engine bolt kit if you need.
but i wouldn't use a set of bolts too many times, maybe a few motors

Those head bolts are not torque to yeild!! Mark......Its fine to resuse your head bolts. I've built enough engines to know. Just make sure that the threads are chased and clean and make sure the camfer on the top thread is true all the way around.
The engine mark has is the LM-1, basically based off the LM-1 of the 74 up camaro Z-28. It carries a horrible 8.5:1 comp, 12cc dished pistons, 4 bolt main, 882 cast heads (76cc), blah blah blah blah.
You want your quench height to be around .030" to .045". to calculate this you need to find out what your deck height is and add in the thickness of the head gasket. The quench height will determine the flash point characteristics and how well of a burn you get. If the flash point isn't in the right spot then there will be an oddity in your combustion and it will not be complete (basically a lose of power.....and trust me its pretty substantial). Remember that you want your spark in the middle of the mix....not on top. This will ensure that all the A/F mixture ignites.

I see. I'll have to measure the deck height like I said.
I'm kinda leary about using a head gasket other than the one the manufacturer says to use.
Once the engine goes back in I might not be able to get to the head bolts to re-torque them. This could be bad...

What about copper head gaskets with O-rings? I know there is some machine work involved but I have all winter to save up.
