Cam for a 305?

Got a chevy 305 from a 92 caprice gonna swap it in to my chevy astro van ( http://www.astrosafari.net/ if anyone wants to know more about V8 astros) the engine is stock now I'm gonna put hedman headers on it and run a true dual 3" exhaust and will run the TBI intake. I'm thinking a preformance cam would be a cheap way to gave a big boost in hp and wanted to know if any of u guys have done this with 305s and what you would recommend?

Thanks ocp

I'd just drop a LT1/LT4 cam in there. Fairly computer freindly, decent power increase, and no excessive lift. Plus, you can pick up a used LT1 cam for $50 or less...

Dual 3'' exhaust is going to be way overkill for that engine.

edelbrock makes a cam specifically for the 305 with low lift on the intake to keep the power from being out of it's rpm range, gives a decent increase according to desktop dyno.

edl-3702

total lift .398/.442

duration @ .050 194/214

he's asking about 305 specific cams as he is going to be swapping a 305 into his Van. Personally, I think its a waste to go through all that effort for a 305, and I think he should through a 350 in at least.... Thats because my dad has a 1997 Safari, and the Vortec 4.3 (I think its 4.3) V6 puts out 190hp, and 245 ft-lbs of torque... VERY comparable to stock 305's, so I'd assume it could be built comparably to 305's... Just my opninion...

I've had great success with Summit's SUM-K-1102. Note my sig. Total lift: 420/442, Duration: 204/214.

Yeah I wanted a 350 but they were just too much money and with my 4.3L having a blown headgasket I didnt feel like rebuilding it. So I looked around and found out it was cheaper to buy a 305 then a 262, must be alot of 305s around. Now I'll have that nice V8 sound in a minivan .

the only problem with a cam like that for a 305 is that it puts the peak power up in the higher rpm ranges not to mention doesn't have a very flat torque curve. which is bad for a car that's heavy and has bad gearing like a minivan.

the edelbrock cam was designed to give a 305 a nice flat torque curve, and to keep the peak hp, and tq down at a level reachable to a 305 with a stock bottom end and valve train.

it's the cam I'm going to use in my t/a when I rebuild the 305.
