Why stock lobe separation so high? (89 GTA)

305 5spd / 350 AT 10066049* .415 .430 207 213 117.0 (116/-118

Information from tech board. The 117 lobe sep. Why so high?
Also, somebody please translate the 116/-118. Supposed to be rocker arm ratio. What's the dimensions on that?

edit: fixed some english for the professor

The high lobe separation helps emissions and smooths the idle. Lower lobe sep gives higher (but usually peakier) torque, and a choppier idle which is not acceptable to the majority of the new-car buying public.

The other numbers you mentioned are the lobe centers, referenced to TDC. The exhaust reaches max opening at 116° BTDC, the intake at 118° ATDC. They have nothing to do with rocker arm ratio.

RB covered the technical portion (like we expected anything different?), but I just noticed the signature. After laughing my **** off out loud, I'm still grinning. Thanks.

I especially like the use of the possessive "your"...

Laiky,
They are gold. 16" Never measured width. Tires on them are 2??-??-16s Think they are 235-60-16. Could be wrong. I'll check if you want me to. Just email me.
