Something Is Wrong With My Engine Need Help

today during lunch i raced my friend in his 87 rs v6 well he was a few cars ahead of me so i had to weave through a few to get up to him as i was catching up to him he cut me off and i had to swerve to miss him. while i turned i hit a patch of water and i started to slide sideways luckily i caught it but i over did it and i started to swerve again the opposite way and i caught that and then i got strait again i was doing this at 75 miles and hr in 5th. then when i got to the local mc donalds when i stoped my engine was smoking and leaking lots of oil but the preasure was at 30 and heat was at 220 so when i get home about 20 min later its still leaking cooled down but now its leaking real bad when it starts and stops i found out cuz i had to move my car to get to my moms car and i left a fat oil slick. but once its parked it doesnt leak. whats my problem. also i didnt win the race i should have cuz i have a 84z l69 5spd but after the fishtails my 2 friends who where in the car told me to slow my *** down. i think i might have blown a seal what do u guys think. also i flat spotted my tires.

First of all....racing with people in the car is just not right man...come on now.

i had a friend in tech school who had an 84 camaro and was racing with 3 PEOPLE IN THE CAR. it was his first car and his first few weeks of driving a car ....EVER.....talk about stupid
well you probably figured out that he crashed and has an after pic of the car i would like to post to show you.
one guy broke his neck and he smashed his face up and flew out the t-tops (they were off...dumb ***?) he is alive but has to wear a special fake tooth that snaps in cause the bone where his tooth used to be is not there anymore.
He flipped a ford F350 on its side and damaged the guy in it pretty bad.

Dude...dont race with poeple in your car or even on the highway for that matter....i hope it dosnt take a couple of deaths to teach you that. or alot of money...for thet guy who brooke his neck ....hes being sued for something like $350,000 that his insurance cant pay cause he got base insurance...something like that im not too sure.

as for the oil leak....tell me where its leakng at so i could get a better idea of whats going on

here what I THINK........

That you need to see a mind doctor.

Possibly if you swear that you will never play moronic games on the street like this again you might get some answers.

there are plenty of ways to get off on speed and not endanger AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER.

Join Speedfreaks (SCCA) and become a corner worker or tire wipe for a racer and move up from there......your lucky your still alive and didnt hurt any one else.

I replied to this before, what happened to that thread? You need to find out where the oil is coming from, if your engine was fairly maintained that shouldn't be difficult. What color was the smoke? Was it burning oil, water, or coolant? If it was oil, you've got something leaking on your exhaust. Water or coolant could also leak on your exhaust, but could also be smoking from overheating. Where did the smoke come from? I'd advise that you watch your oil and coolant levels closely and fill them to the proper level.

It could be the power steering pump or hose. When the engine is running the oil in that hose is under presure, then the oil leak starts.

well when i got the car last yr the guy didnt take car of ****. the coolent was rusty and so i replaced that and the radiator to be safe. the oil was really balck and smelled like ****. and the fuel filter was all clogged. the steam/smoke cam from right by the fire wall. everytime i fill up my oil it leaks out. so i think i have a crusty oil pan gasket or something. also yes my power steering does leak but i dont really care about that to much i added some sealer and it seems to work but i still think it was smoking because of oil.

Sounds like the engine is pretty dirty. You may want to try draining a quart of oil and replacing it with tranny fluid, then running it for a while like that and changing the oil again. You've probably got a ton of sludge and varnish built up. That may fix the sound you hear, but could make the leak worse. I guess it's a trade off. If I were you I'd fix the leak and just change the oil regularly.

Are you saying the oil being black and crusty is normal FOR YOU? Because it's not supposed to be crusty at all, nor should it be very black.

Find your oil leak first. Have you checked your valve covers? One could be leaking onto your exhaust causing the smoke. After you find your leak switch to sythetic oil to clean out your motor.

Joc,

It sounds like your engine is dirty both inside and out. If you changed the oil only 500 miles ago and it is already black, it's time to flush the engine as Rezinn suggested.

As for the leak, until you get the known leaks repaired (power steering) and clean up the engine and compartment, it's going to be very dificult to find the main source of your leakage.

by the firewall, aye? Check your intake. There is a coolant crossover passage in the rear of teh intake that likes to leak. Also, oil will leak out b/w the dist. and the intake when the little gasket goes bad. If coolant is all over the back of the motor and mixed in with the oil, there is a good chance its teh itake leaking. Take a good look when everything is all warmed up and see where it is all comiong from. As for racing with people, i know where you are coming from, my friends always want me to "race" someone. For some reason people always see camaro on the dash and think "lets go race" Of coarse i refuse to race with people in the car. As for when im alone, well, thats a different story

Tranny fluid cleans it out, kind of like engine flush. Use atf, I can't believe you'd consider putting gear oil in there I guess I did just say tranny fluid, though.. Don't overfill, just drain a quart and replace that with it. A few hundred miles and it will probably be completely black and need changing again.

Like I said before, you may not want to do this. It may clean deposits away and create more leaks or worsen the one you have now. I'm pretty sure from how you describe things it may create more problems for you. But if you want your engine in good condition, you don't want that sludge in there. You also don't want it leaking oil.

As far as the power steering, try tightening the hose clamps that connect to the pump, that may help if you're lucky like I was. As far as the engine flush, it's your choice. You may want to read up on some other peoples experiences with a similar engine, though.

ill try it soon. so just a quart and run it for a few hundred miles. sounds like a good deal. i just want to keep my block in good condition cuz its a l69. ima put a 350 in it and then in afew yrs if i want to sell it ill put the l69 in it for the #s. but i still want to keep the block in good condition so ill try ur idea and if i get alot oil coming out ill replace the seals. shouldnt be too hard

If you don't have enough oil in it, that may make it slower.
