Cam Recommendations for a 383 Carb
Here's the stats:
383
4340 forged bottom end with Ultra LW I beams 5.7
Balanced
Crank has been knife edged
Running 10.76:1 TRW flat tops
AFR 210cc Alum. Race Ready heads (2.08 & 1.6) going to be polished
Planning on running 1.6 pro mag rockers
stud girdle
roller solid set up
intake is a Victor jr with 750 carb with 2 inch HVH 4 hole tapered spacer
Will have MSD setup
Should have between 2400-3000 9 1/2 inch stall with 700-r4 trannie with 3.27s currently but planning on going to 3.73 or 4.11s Car should probably weigh about 3k lbs
Motor should beable to turn 7500 rpms.
Car will be mainly used for Street/Strip I'm willing to use a vac canister, but I want it to idle decent at stops. I do want a little bit of that rough idle though.
I called Comp Cams and they told me @.050 Duration 236 int 242 exh with .564 int lift and .570 exh lift..... (.601 int and .608 exh corrected lift for 1.6 rocker) and 110 LSA. Told me powerband on it should be between 2200-6200 rpms, but thats with 1.5 rockers.
What's everyone think? I was thinking maybe a little more Duration.

I am no cam expert but i think you will need to step up to the XR280R 280/286 242/248@.050 .570/.576 lift with 1.5 rockers. I think you will need the additional overlap this cam provides to run the 10.7:1 CR.
A 3.73-4.11 gear and a 3000 stall should match up well.
Make sure your valvesprings are up to par, COMP recommends their 977 spring.

Yeah, heads are brand new from AFR with 1.550" OD Roller Valve Spring, 220 lbs. on seat, .670" maximum lift so I think that should be enough.
That cam looks pretty decent, maybe I'll call back into Comp Cams sometime and ask them about it.
I still haven't decided if I want to send my stall back in to get it changed or not. I had it setup to launch at 2400 for 345 tq and I know this 383 should be putting off more than that.

Called into Comp Cams again yesturday. They said xr280r would be a good cam power from 2200-6300 rpms but it should rev higher than that. They also told me my springs that are in my heads right now are way to heavy on the seat they recommended a pair similiar to the 977s, except a little bigger diameter and about 161 seat pressure. So I guess I'll be buying new springs and stuff. So I guess I'll wait for the shop work bill then get together with my builder and sit down and start picking out all the parts.
I'm starting to wonder if I'll have enough clearance to run a 1.6 rocker since lifts will be .608 and .614.... hopefully I will. Comp cams said I a 2400-3k stall with the cam would be good.

Yeah, I totally agree. Since I already have the springs, retainers, keepers and all installed on the heads which were assembled by AFR. I'm going to check into it. I'm kind of starting to worry about clearancing issues though... even though I used a flat top with valve relief in it.

Wondering now if I'll have enough clearance to use a xr280r with 1.6 rockers and my 2.08 int and 1.6 valves, with my trw flattops runing 10.7:1
XR280R 280/286 242/248@.050 .570/.576 lift with 1.5 rockers
then .608 and .614 with 1.6 rockers
