Switching to V-belt.... some questions....

I'm looking for the cheapest way to buy all brand new pulleys, and brackets to switch from my serpentine setup to v-belt. I can't seem to find any good places that stock like a whole kit, two groove crank, two groove water pump, alternator, and power steering pulley. I'm just wondering if anyone has anywhere I can turn to?

Thanks

PJ

i am not to sure, but i think that some of the accesories will have to be changed, i think they would rotate the oppisite way if you change to a v-belt. i am not sure which ones, when i did my swap i had all new accesories. if i am wrong please correct me.

Yeah I think it would too, but I got rid of the smog pump, and ac. Only four pulleys to worry about now.

i dont know if you can just change pullys on the water pump, PS pump, alt., and crank and have everything work right. those are all the accesories i run, but i am not sure if they spin the other way. i think the water pump will defintley will spin the other way.

Yes. The water pump is the only thing that spins backwards.

Yep, I'm switching that also. Still no go on a good pulley set though to do it.

just out of curiosity, not flamming or anything, but why are you going backwards and putting in a parasitic and complicated v-belt system in place of your present serpintine system?

I'd like to know as well, why switch to v-belts? I switched to serpentine a couple years ago and still have the v-belt accessories. Mine was a bastard mostly v-belt serpentine alternator one, though.

The way my turbo's sit :-), just doesn't leave any room for those huge brackets of the serpentine setup. The v-belt setup gets rid of all that and cleans up the engine bay just enough to clear everything.

Do they have to be brand new? I've picked up pulley's and brackets at the junkyard and after a little bit of time cleaning and painting they look pretty good. I'm actually doing the same thing you're doing (switching back to the v-belt for more space). I used to have v-belts, went to serp, now I'm going back the v-belts. I just picked up the crank and water pump pulley off of a Monte for about $5.

I kind of went searching saturday for em, but the locak j/y doesn't like junk motors sitting by themselves out of the car. Heh. So they either junk em, or they're still in the car. I'm going to try again this weekend at another j/y, but just wish I could buy a new set cheaply so I don't have to go out in the Michigan weather again.

I can't imagine why you'd want to convert to vbelt, but if you want it, I've got the vbelt setup off my 84. And a water pump that has only seen about 8000 miles (came with my ZZ4 crate motor). I converted over to serpentine

I should still have the vbelt Power Steering and AIR Injection pulley if you need it, as well as 140 amp alternator (don't believe you can use the alternator you've got, but feel free to give it a shot).

I looked over your list and I should have what you need.... you're deleting the A/C and AIR, correct?
