EDIT: ok i just read vaders article again, and i see the screws are TAMPER proof torx screws.. geez i guess they really didn't want anyone getting that thing off!

 

If you're an animal like me and your local sears craftsman aisles are as lame as mine you can make do as Vader suggests in the article by ounding the tit flat with a hammer and a punch or similar.

 

haha. well i tried using a punch and hammer to pound the **** down. but i only got 3 where i could insert the torx and get the bolts out. the other ones i used vice grips. and ill just go and buy some new bolts. i just gotta figure out what size they are..

you could have bought the bit for less than the screws at autozone or a similar store

 

i don't think autozone has the special tamper proof torx bits..

 

We have the tamper proof bit set at Advance Auto...IIRC, it's like $8.99 for a set of I think 8 tamper proof torx bits, an adapter, and a lil rubber boot thing to hold em all. That's what I used to remove mine. The thing that sux about them though, is that the hole in the center tends to weaken the bits quite a bit and they twist up with any kind of torque applied to them at all.

 

I removed mine by putting the torx bit in place and tapping it with a hammer which flattened the bump down enough for the torx bit to go deep enough.

 

ya. i couldn't find my T-10 socket, only my T-10 i could find was my set of 90* torx wrenches. which aren't that big and i tried to hammer them down.. i guess i should of had more patience.. oh well as long as i can find some #6-40 screws then it won't be a problem. but my luck hasn't been the best so far..

oh and Black88GTA, thanks for the tip, ill have to go check and see if any of my local shops have any, it not then im sure snap on will.. its always nice to have cool new tools!

 

I'm pretty sure i looked in at least 2 of the larger auto parts stores around here and they didn't have 'em. I admit it's rough, and not the greatest idea, but sometimes in the end it really didn't matter.

 

I'd be careful with those tiny screws. Kragen carries the bits in socal. I got one with my afpr from summit, though.
