Starter/Flexplate Problem
I have a mini starter that suppose to work on 153 and 168 tooth flexplate. However when I install the starter it' about a 1/4in. into the inside of the flexplate, which is preventing the starter from engaging into the flexplate. Has anyone run into this problem before. The engine is a SBC 283 with a 153 tooth SBC 305 flexplate AND HAVE A STRAIGHT BOLT PATTERN.

That has the other straight bolt pattern...
The pattern you need doesn't exist on blocks before about 78 or 79, so it's fairly certain your 283 doesn't have it. It needs one additional hole drilled & tapped to use that setup.
