1st gens are nice but expect to pay 5-10,000 for a straight running 1st gen with nothing spectacular. Why dont you take your 4,000 and throw a crate 383 in your rs?

or you could save some money, and go to college, and then make enough money to REALLY build a fast car

but i know you don't want to hear that

Couldn't agree with Dewey more. My car is fast now, but I'm missing all of the money I put into it. There are more important things to life than going fast.

Find a 72-76 T/A with a 455 in it. slap on an intake and hedders and giggle profusly as you pass your friends.

Am I the only one having trouble understanding what these two are saying? How about some punctuation? My brain hurts from trying to read that.

Anyhoo, if you dead set on going fast, and doing it right now, don't get a new car. You RS is a decent platform for what your looking for. Use the $4000 you have to build youself a motor ( a 350 is fine, a 383 is better, and a 400+ is wonderful). Spend your first $100 dollars in books dealing with SBC engine building. Memorize every page of every book and go at it. For 3900 you can build yourself one hell of a 355 or 400. I'd stay away from a 383 because of the extra machining etc.. that you'll have to get done. Assuming we're keeping this N/A you don't have to go nuts on the bottom end, just keep to the basic, no exotic parts. It doesn't matter how bombproof your bottom end is, if you don't have a good flowing and well matched top end, your not gonna make power. The Cylinder heads is where you don't wanna skimp out. Spend most of your money there. AFR's are great, Pro toplines are too. Get a cam and intake system to match. Carburetion is the cheapest and often most effective way to go on the intake side. Biggest thing to remember here is you don't wanna be making all your power at 7000 rpm using a stock shortblock. Use parts that make max power around 6000~ rpms and you'll be fine...

Building all this is gonna take you a good month or two i'd imagine, plus ripping out all your old stuff, so you'll have time to save some money from your job. Take your first months pay (800~) and have your tranny worked. Your rear will be ok for a little while until you can save up enough for a good used 9". You might even be able to get away with a 9 bolt.

Just my advice, but i'm an idiot more times than not, so don't take that to the bank....

Eric

LOL

There are more important things to life than going fast.
How true, just wish I could practice that

Like said, buying a decent 1st Gen is gonna take up most if not all your money.

Now I will sound old like dewey. You guys be careful racin to school and sh*t like that. I use to do that all the time, now I look back and realize how stupid I was. I actually never got beat, and I only had a new 5spd cavalier. But, it was really curvy and no one really had any sports cars in school. Glad I didn't meet up with somethin like I got now back then. But be careful and watch for cops, believe me, I paid 186.00per month for my insurance becuase I was stupid and started gettin tickets.

Another good point brought up inthe above post is isurance. My insurance for my SC is actually cheaper then the insurance for my new accord ex i had. Not only did i rid myself of the 330/mo. payments when i got rid of the honda but i also saved around 10% on insurance because the rs is considered less of a liability. Id say keep the rs and mod it. The insurance company will still see slow boat anchor on your policy so your insurance wont be an arm and a leg.
