What year?

Did you know-81-87 Escorts made 65 horsepower and the engines didn't last very long either? Hehe.... And I'm not kidding either....Edmunds.com......

Since the turbo wasn't factory, I can't find info for ya..but I can say that the GT 1.9 liter motor made around 110 horses, so assuming the turbo got about..hmm...40% more power, which I'm sure is a quite conservative estimate, 154 horses.

Wow! It's gotta be at least 15-20 RWHP.

Actually, the specifications I could find for the 1.9L are 108 S.A.E. Net BHP @ 5,200 RPM, 114 ft/lb @ 4,000 RPM. That would equate to 80.5 kW and 15.76 kG/m, or 154 N/m.

thanks for the info guys sorry i forgot to mention the year 1990
so if i tell them about 115 - 120 BHP does that sound close enough, the high bhp goes the higher my premiums go

thanks again

just a WAG but i'd suspect the higher the HP you tell them the higher the insurance rate, and if they don't know then my HP estimate is 86HP. you can tell them you looked it up on the net, which you did. if the rate is too high at 86HP my other HP estimate is 52HP. glad i could help.

I rounded up two, Vader... Lol...after all, this is estimation right? Heh..give them the specs for the standard escort, not for the GT...that should fly just fine. Around 95 horses or so probably. Just tell them you didn't know it was a GT, or didn't know it had a different engine...pretend you're dumb.

Damn, Ed. You must have a pretty good feel for power output. The actual specs from the same manual for the "regular" Escort 1.9L four-holer are 88 BHP @ 4,400 RPM, 108 ft/lb @ 4,000 RPM. Either way, it ain't much to brag about, but should get you to work and back.

well i thank you all for your time and not flaming me to much for
buying a f**d but i was desparate for some working wheels
and it was cheapish.
if i go with 115bhp i think they might swallow that. as i just transfered the GTA insurance over (£440) to the f**d i think thats prolly still far to expensive for an old four banger
if anyone thinks i should change that figure let me know
i did find out that f**d did make a turbo escort in 83 to 85 i think those are the right years.

As long as you're still a GM owner at heart, it's all good. I try not to bash.....believe me, I know the feeling...I would've gone with a Rustang when looking for a car if it was within my budget. It's hard to stay company-loyal when you're broke.
