5 speed swap - GM or Lakewood bell housing?
5 speed swap - GM or Lakewood bell housing?
I have an auto trans now, so I need a bell housing to mount up my Tremec 3550. Should I use the GM or Lakewood variety? Any reason why it matters? Is used ok? What should I look for?
Finally, does anyone have the part number for the GM V8 T5 bell housing for my '92 Camaro? T I A

The lakewood bellhousing is a "scattershield", it is about 1/4" thick peice of steel that is designed to keep you from loosing your legs in the event your flywheel decides to let go at 6000 rpm, and is an overkill if your car is stock with one execption -an alluminum flywheel wich let the engine rev allot faster than a steel one and let go allot more often than a steel one. (mostly because people don't know how to drive- they dont like sudden stress- like when someone "drops" the cluch) Sorry I don't have the part # for a stock bellhousing but they should be the same no matter what engine you have from '84-'92 ('82 and '83 had a mechanical linkage which is a pain to put in)
