People with LG4 engine and A/C
I need help from people with the 5.0 L LG4 engine and air conditioning. My car never had A/C and I added it.
My newly installed A/C compressor does not seem to line up correctly with the other pulleys. I installed all the correct engine brackets, etc. from a 1984 LG4 engine. It seems to be about 1/2 inch too far back towards the engine. The belt runs from the crankshaft to the power steering pump to the compressor. The crankshaft and power steering line up perfectly, but the A/C compressor seems a little off.
I'm worried about the belt chafing on the compressor pulley and exploding when I run the engine (hasn't run yet since I installed A/C). Can anyone check under their engine and see if their stock LG4 has the same slightly crooked compressor setup? Or maybe since I got the compressor off a V6 car, the pulley is a little different? Anybody know?
I'll try posting this in "Cooling It Down" as well. Thanks!

On my 85 Lg4 I had three belts driven off of the crank pully. The first one (from the front of the engine, while looking at it with hood up), drives the water pump and alternator. The middle one drove the water pump, A/C, and power steering pump. And the third belt drives the power steering pump. Did the non A/C cars come with a differn't crank pully? Maybe this is your problem.

There's some pics in this thread that I took of my L69 engine, same bracket arrangement.

Thanks RB83L69. My brackets look exactly the same. I used my GM shop manual and a GM exploded part # diagram to put my brackets on. They look the same and everything tightened up nice.
Fanman, I NOW have the same pulley arrangement as you, but non-AC cars don't have that third belt. I had to get a new double pulley for my power steering pump and the correct bracket. But IT lines up perfect. It's just the compressor that doesn't on the second belt! Maybe it's supposed to be slightly off?
Any other ideas?

No, the compressor is definitely supposed to line up. No question of that.
Not all compressor pulleys are the same. You may just need to get some other compressor.
