ok my friend just found a 428
he bought it for about 100 bucks
how good are the motors and what kind of issues do they have?
what would you guys recomend as a decent build up on it using the 6x heads... unless you know where he can pick up some 16 heads

Are the heads 6x-4 or 6x-8? Just rebuild the heads with big springs or get the edelbrocks. And through on a XE274 or so cam, should make tons-o-torque=tons-o-fun!

Seems like the last year of the 428 was about 62 or 63.... I recall it being an option on the 59 Catalina I had....
I don't even know for sure if the later-model heads would bolt up to it. I do know, from one occasion when I was building a 64 Pontiac, that they changed several things about the crank flange when they went from the old 4-speed HydraMatic transmissions to the T-400 in 65.
Sounds to me like an opportunity for lots of research. I don't think there's any real easy answers on that one.

no heads on the block so he is going ot have to buy them
he wants the 16's but doesn't think he could find any for a good price
and the 6x heads if he did find those not sure as to which one he woudl get be it 6x-8 or 6x-4
he thinks the 4's would raise compression up to high and the 8's would lower it too much
how much are the edelbrocks?

EDIT: THIS IS NOT RX7SPEED. MUCHWHITESMOKE HERE, JUST ACCIDENTALLY GOT ON WITH HIS USERNAME...... AGAIN!
nah, the 428 was from like 66-69 when the 455 came about the 428 was obsolete. so it can take all the "present" day poncho stuff.
in 64 you may be thinking of a 389.
other than that i dunno. poncho parts are hard to come by as idaho is kind of a black hole as far as parts and availability. that's why i wanted to try the 6X's if the 16s didn't pan out. since 6x4s are harder to come by i will most likely be looking at 6x8s.

The edelbrocks cost $1679. The 6X heads are flow better then the 16's, infact they are one of the better flowing stock heads.

Using the same ISP makes no difference. They must be using the same computer to stay logged in to one name or another.
P.S. If I ever say "pooh-pooh" or "wee-wee," it was Vader playing around on my name again.
