Stupid question but what way does the engine rotate

I found a marine 305 to put in my moms 83 camaro, but it says it rotates ( LH ) . Is that the same way the normal SBC rotates. The motor is rated at 200HP with a 2 barrel, and max rpm is 4200 to 4600. I can get it very very cheap. If the motor does rotate the same way it will be alot better then whats in the car now. It has a 1978 305 with a 2 barrel rated at 145HP with unknown mileage.
THANKS

Ok thank you, so LH is standard like every other chevy and will be ok to put in the car. Also sense it is a marine motor what is the difference between a normal motor, is it a stronger bottom end or more aggressive cam or what.
THANKS

P.S could that motor be one that is standard rotation but has the cam going in the opposite direction.

Nothing really. Maybe cam specs will be a little different but nothing out of the ordinary. Those motors like a lot of horsepower. As far as the bottom end....not really sure if they built it or not. All the motors are different. Just depends what the guy wanted in it. The application is pretty much the same.

No. The crank, cam and distributor all have to be changed in a RH engine. You are fine. The motor you have will rotate the right direction.

Duke901: you may want to install a new cam, reason being that marine engines are built to live at 4500 to 5000 rpm, with hp being more inportant than torque, your car will live most of its life(unless it stays on a race track) around 1200 to 2500 rpm, if you pull a marine 305 from a boat and put it in your car it will have great top end power but not as much torque as an automotive 305. Along the same line, I have a marine 350 with an automotive cam, and have 100,000+ miles of hard pulling and have had no trouble, as far as internals, the bearings are the only real diff between an automotive and marine engine. Also the freeze plugs should be brass on a marine engine. hope this helps

What kind of compression do marine engines usually have.

Some older boats that had twin screws had one engine reversed for the cavitation, not sure how they do it now !

I'd guess he did a Google search for the subject and didn't pay attention to the posting dates?
