does your car have a MAF sensor? because everytime SES light would come on mechanics said computer showed "code 44 lean exhaust" they replaced O2 sensors numorus times & then finally one day it shut off & i had to have it roll-backed & i took it to an electrical shop & it was the MAF sensor

that's possible, I'd think... aren't the MAF sensor and O2 sensor similar sensors? just on different sides of the engine? one measures air coming in, one measures air going out? I don't know if there's a separate code for the MAF going bad....

yeah your car might not have it... it depends if it has that speed density update on it...if you do have a MAF sensor they are expensive (atleast around here) & if you have to keep replacing it, like i do, then it becomes REAL old after awhile...yes that is how you reset the computer by disconnecting the battery ***d@mn computer & MAF

Disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for 20 minutes or so and try it again. If you can, hook a scanner to the ALDL and see exactly what the O2 readings are when the codes get set.

Mushroom,
In 1989, the 3.8L Buick V-6 in Buick/Olds/Cadillac products (BOC Group) switched from analog Bosch to AC/Delco FM MAF on high-performance engines only. All other 3.8L and V-6 engines used speed-density systems - including yours. This means you have no MAF, but a MAP sensor instead.
The DTC 44/45 are for and oxygen sensor lean and rich, respectively. Getting both of them without a '13' or '55' (oxygen sensor failure) can mean a leak into the exhaust system, failing TPS, leaking injector/regulator, poor O² connection or ground, incorrect fuel pressure, and other problems.
I'm guessing your engine looks like this:

hmmm... would this be why every now and then my car makes a puttering noise when gas is pressed? my brother told me it sounds like the injectors need cleaned...
There is something weird about that picture...i think my alternator and a/c pump might be the difference? i think the alternator is on left and a/c is on the right... and the radiator maybe... i think the radiator opening is on the opposite side of the battery? dont really remember that tho.. maybe its just because my car is MFI isntead of TBI though? maybe my radiator opening is on the right ... the intake hose goes from the motor towards the front of motor, then goes left, then down. if its important, i could post a pic of it..
or are firebirds A/C and alternator opposite sides of a camaro?
and thanks alot for the help.
