wiper motor without washer?
wiper motor without washer?
i was wondering if anyone knew of a wiper motor for our cars without the washer. i dont really care for washers, i rarely use it and it leaves a nasty residue. it would help clean up the bay alot!
thanks
thanks
At least by 1986 (and possibly before) the impulse (reciprocating) wash pump was replaced with a separate centrifugal pump in the washer reservoir. I'm not sure how the later wiper motor would fit your mountings or linkage, however.

couldnt' you just pull the washer bottle and remove the tubing that runs to the bottle itself? I took my washer bottle out last summer to replace it with a brand new one, but I forgot to order a new one and its been sitting in the house ever since. I dont' see why you couldn't just cut the tubing off or something to that effect.
My '86 TA has the "large" wiper motor, with an integral washer pump. I should have said "1987 MODEL year", since as I recall, the '87 I looked at closely had the separate pump.
Please correct me if my memory is as bad as my golf swing...

well i didn't mean it in a way that one would just take a hacksaw and start "cutting" away at the tubing. i meant to just detach the tubing from the motor itself, I was unaware of the fact that different motors were avaible for those without washer bottles. sorry

Yep, my '86 has the integral washer pump, too.
And I've been thru 3 pumps already, and need a 4th. The damn pump runs dry when there's no fluid in the hose. When the pump runs dry, the metal motor shaft burns out the center of the plastic impeller. This leaves you with a motor that spins and spins- but never sucks any washer fluid up.
I've wanted to convert to the remote pump for some time now, but can't find a decent one in the junkyard. Either they're missing, smashed, or dirty as all hell.

Sorry nikh23, didn't mean to sound harsh or anything. Just obviously dealing with some frustration related to certain kinds of shortcutting (for example the hole-in-the-floor-so-i-can-change-fuel-pumps-easier mod). It's all good.

for info: I had problems finding a pump for my 83Z. The parts places kept trying to sell me one that was not "part" of the wiper motor. Finally I noticed many of the little front wheel drive jobs in the junkyard had the same style wiper motor and pump. I got a one off a celebrity (sure about that one) and another one out of a similar sized buick. The particular junkyard I go to usually doesn't even charge for the tiny little parts. Both pumps worked, I installed one and put the other one away for next time.
