freaking valve cover

92 Camaro RS..305 TBI...

Damn passenger side valve cover..i keep putting those breather caps in the damn vavle cover and oil still blows all over the place.. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about hitting the junk yard and finding the OEM breather since there is a hose that runs from that valve cover opening to the breather.

Yeah, the factory valve covers and factory breather arrangement is far better than the crap that people seem to think "looks" better.... how anything that you can take one look at and see it has no chance of working right, can possibly "look" better than something that works, I'll never understand....

You can get new grommets at the parts store, a much better idea than trying to pry an old dried-out one off of some junked motor. Then you can use a plastic 5/8" heater hose splice and a 90° formed heater hose piece to make the line up to the air cleaner.

Sounds as if you getting a massive amount of crankcase pressure. Does the car burn oil (besides blowing it out the breather)?

Do a compression check. Sounds like the rings are going south.

Doesn't really burn oil..its leaking a little from somewhere..would a bad PCV cause this problem too?

Yes.

PCV evacuates the crankcase; it sucks all the funk vapors and combustion leakage gases out of there. Without it, there will be a little positive pressure in the crankcase, whihc will tend to always want to slightly force oil out. It's a system well worth the trouble of keeping working right.

The PCV valve itself hooks up to the TB, that's where it gets the vacuum, and it plugs into the driver's side VC. The fitting to the pass side VC lets filtered air in to replace the air that the engine sucks out through the DS VC.

I've had a breather on the passenger side for well over a year, very clean I would say. You just have to make sure your PCV valve is functioning ok.

also when I was burning oil due to o-ring failure on the pistons, I never had any case of extreme crankcase pressure... just lots of blue smoke on WOT and startup...

Unless you have massive blow-by you shouldn't have a problem with crankcase pressure. Especially if you have valve cover breathers. Remember the the mass is displaced evenly when one piston goes down the other goes up creating neither positive or negative atmospheric pressure. Now of course that is all in theory and if the motor has enough miles (read wear and tear) on it then there will be blow-by creating a pressure build up. But this can be negated by valve cover breathers. Not sure why oil is squirting out of them though. Do you have baffles in the covers??

yup..i replaced the valve cover gaskets..and check both baffels..they are there and look ok. I'm just going to pick up a new PCV and see what happens.
