My starter died, can't get it out

How do I friggin get this damn thing out??

I've thought about taking apart the starter motor, but I can't get to the bolt on the other side.....

Obviously if this thing went in, it obviously comes out....

HELP ASAP!

IIRC it comes out nose down, and with the solenoid pointed toward the rear of the car. You may want to pull the spark plugs out right above there (6 & 8), and remove the wire from the knock snesor and the fan switch, just to keep them from getting wacked.

I'm not having any trouble with plugs getting in my way, I'm attempting to pull it out nose down, but the starter MOTOR keeps hitting the frame and it just doesn't seem like it can fit through there. I can't disconnect my exhaust either....I'm hurtin for help!!!

try dropping your y pipe. i have to unbolt my y pipe, loosen the bolt that supports the cat and intermediate pipe and let the exhaust rest on a couple jack stands while i remove my starter otherwise it wont fit....

You can drop your Y-pipe if the nuts will come loose...but, the starter will come out w/o doing that. I just put one in my car...will come out in front of Y-pipe, nose down, and if it was an 1/8" bigger I don't think it would make out of that hole!

Good luck!

replace the nuts that come off the manifolds with brass ones....end of rust problems. I did and life is so much easier.....just go t your parts/hardware store and get some, the are cheap too.

I've NEVER been able to get a starter out of an automatic V8 thirdgen with a stock y-pipe, at least not an L69 or TPI car. Maybe with the smaller LG4/l03 y-pipe there's enough room. On a 5 speed car, the smaller starter will fit around the stock y-pipe.

I changed mine a while back, all stock parts. I had to do some serious wiggling and twisting to get it to come out, nose down. Getting it back in seemed more challenging, I ended up taking off the selenoid to help matters out. There is enough room to remove or reinstall selenoid once you get the starter in the general right place, but do it BEFORE you bolt it up
