A lot of people have been asking me about how I relocated my alternator to the smog pump location. So while I had the engine out, I took some pictures. First, this alternator is made for a 91 Cutlass, not a Camaro. Its a long story why I have it, but the only difference is the mounting holes are exactly opposite of what the Camaro is. So the fat lug is where the narrow lug is, and vice versa. Anyway, here are some pictures. Sorry for the multiple posts, but I don't have another way.

The first pic is of the top mounting hole. This uses the stock hole, with the stock bolt that goes into the head. On a normal Camaro alternator, there will be fewer spacers.

 

Here is #2. This shows the bottom hole, and how it needs to be drilled. Notice the bottom portion of the factory hole, and where I had to notch out. The front, which I don't have a pic of, needs a new hole drilled. I used a big washer to cover up the front holes.

 

And the last one just shows how it fits together. Keep in mind though, the lugs will be different for a factory issue starter.

 

Why'd you have to relocate it?

 

I think it was for looks. I think it does look cooler anyways.

 

If you don't mind my asking... what kind of belt did you use ? Part number...?

 

Yes, it was for looks. I wanted to keep everything low. I am still trying to come up with an idea to move the idler pulley so it doesn't stick up. THe belt I am using is a Dayco # 5060770.

After some advice from johnsjj2, I decided to relocate mine to the passenger side bottom of the motor. However, I didnt use the stock aluminum brackets, but rather made my own. I feel that it's low enough to be out of the way, but high enough to not get wet. The only thing I may have to change is the water pump to a standard rotation pump. I removed my smog and A/C, and moving the alternator down low not only gets it out of the way, but also provides me with a way to tension the belt by using an adjustable link.
