Should I do the 5.7 or 5.0/5spd

I'm sure this has been asked several times in different degree's, but i'm really hung up here. I am *only* considering a 92 Z28, and after having my GT for almost 2 years, I won't drive anything but a stick. I want the torque of the L98 though. I've thought i'd just get the LB9/T5 with G92 and then throw in the L98, but with this who speed density computer, i'm starting to think I might be better off with the L98/700R4 and then throwing in a T56... I have a friend who did the auto-T56 and did an engine swap as well and he said the engine swap is much easier mainly due to the pain hanging the pedals and stuff is. Then again, this was on an 89 IROC which he didn't have to mess with teh computer. I really need to get as much info on this as possible because I want to make sure i'm going to be happy. I found a complete T56 setup from a 94 Z28 with 70K miles on it for 1300... so I dont know. Please help me ASAP!

Go with a L98 and swap in a T-56, the T-5 is worthless and will break under its own weight.

i say go with the 94 unless you think the 94 is a third gen. fourth gens have more power and a stronger transmition, when talking about the standard, but i wouldnt trade my third gen for anything.

I'd go with a LB9 and a T-5. You definitely shouldn't swap in a L98 with the T-5, the T-5 would go out rather quickly. the L98 has too much torque for the T-5 to handle. I'd just put in a L98 and then swap in a T56.

I have an 92 Z28 TPI 5-Speed G92, must admit I love it

Swapped out the 305 for a 383, didnt think I would be happy with the L98.

Spohn makes a kit to replace the T-5 with a 6-Speed that still uses our clutch set up. Might save some clutch cost greif. I beleive its a Tremec, and u get a better torque arm and driveshaft with the kit. Not sure on cost, was told about it from a friend.

I'd get the L98 car and put in the T-56. Everything will be there already except the trans, pedals, and console. The T-5 (with the 305's) will not hold up anyway if you intend on having fun while driving or modding the engine. Every person that I have heard of that did it (and likes manuals obviously) really liked the swap, the L98 is a great and fun engine.

Hmm... both opinions... My friend who did the T56 swap first put in a T5 and that held up for like 2 years of hard beating, track beating with slicks, etc... I just think the engine swap will be a lot easier than dealing with cutting the firewall, cutting under the console to get the shifter in there, etc... I'm just not sure which way to go

Just throw me some more opinions... but like others have mentioned, I know the T5 won't hold up, so i'd have to replace the tranny sometime, so there's 2 things, 305 to 350 and T5 to T56, rather than just getting the 700R4 to T56... choices....

here is an even better idea:

get the l98/700r4 combo, save your money and put a shift kit in the auto tranny(that way you can shift it yourself), use the money you just saved on a t56 swap and buy yourself a supercharger.

if that doesn't do it for you, it sounds like your mind is made up already, why swap 2 things out when all you have to swap is one.

I'll second that last idea. Makes a whole lot of sense to me. I can understand wanting to shift the car manually. But I prefer power and speed. If the easiest road to power is the auto, then that is the way for me. I would rather build up my 700r4 and get the 350. Which is what I have already decided for my car. I would only do the T-56 if I got a smoking deal on one.
