Stock intake manifold

How good is the stock intake manifold? If i were to get a new one how much would it cost? I have a 350 TPI with mods in my sig. I am saving up money to have the top end of my engine get new performance parts and dress up parts. Thanks!

Ya, it's easy to port the plenum, no need to waste time on the runners...when you have them off, you'll see what I mean.

If you're after more RPMs and HP, then you'll want a better set of runners, the stock ones cannot be improved 9maybe minumally, not noticiably though) but you can port the base...depends on your budget, etc...or buy a new one with more meat to work with.

What's your goal? Could be you can get there with what you have, or you may need to upgrade.

My goal is to have a very fast daily driver. I wanted to get it into the 10's but for a daily driver thats not going to hapen. I just want to be able to prove that automatics are not slow and waste those piece of crap ricers. I want to get it into the 12's though. Could i do that with stock runners and a ported intake manifold with the right other mods?

I won't say "No" as a definte, I'm sure there are some who have dipped into the 12's with the stock top--shelf, but it's not going to happen for the most of us.

If 12's are your goal with FI/na, then you're best off looking for a new intake, heads and cam.

but would i need a new intake manifold to run 12's or would a stock ported/polished one work? I have decided to get large tube runners.

save a lot of money and buy a Stealth Ram. TPI intakes are gonna fall flat on their face at 4500 rpm and the cost for complete largemouth base, runners, and plenum is way more than you'd ever want to spend. Stealth Ram is hundreds cheaper and will actually increase HP and not restrict you to a 4500 rpm limit! If you just want to see 12s with a TPI unit, you're gonna need a monster 406 or a 383, but why choke that motor so much, you could see 11s or lower with a better intake!

If your already having you stock heads ported I hope it turns out well for you. I had mine done many years ago and i did not see much inprovement. i finaly got smart and bought afr heads. if your spending the kind of money I think you are. or if your paying some one labor for the removel and install ( or if your wrenching yourself). I think you are better of buying new after market heads. i also agree with a another post, it will be hard to get in the 12's with stock ported heads and ported stock upper. you can always put the bottle on it , that will will get you were you want to be.

Im getting the heads ported and polished (off the car) for about $300 out the door. Squeeks83 had them done and he said he noticed a big difference.
