Why is my primary fan...
coming on as soon as the car starts? As soon as I start the car after it has sat all night the primary comes on right away. It's a '88 with the dual fans. Any suggestions?

Primary fan as in the one that is controlled by the ECM ? Need to look at the scan data to see what it's looking at. The fan will come on with the defroster if you have A/C
Look in the area along the right subframe rail in the engine bay. There should be a high pressure refrigerant line running along that rail. Within that line should be a high pressure compressor cutout switch. If this switch is disconnected, failed, or if there is a problem with the wiring there, the primary fan will run continuously with the ignition ON.

Vader, A/C is completely off the car. OK, any fixes so it runs off the ecm, as if that high pressure switch was conected? Thanks for the replys guys.

What he's saying is that you need to insert a jumper in place of the pressure switch. The ECM will believe that AC system pressure is normal and teh fan will not run contimuously. Make sure you use an insulated jumper so the wiring doesn't gound inadvertently against something it shouldn't, or the ECM may suffer damage.
Stand over by the passenger side front fender. When you lean over the engine bay and look down, you can see two hard refrig. lines running down the frame rail. About as far forward as the #1 and #2 cylinders, there is an electrical connector plugged into the top of one of those two lines. In my case (on an 87), unplugging it makes the primary fan run. I believe in other years, it operates differently and the two sides of the connector must be connected to one another in order to accomplish the same thing.

I just noticed the same problem on my 89 ....but BOTH fans are comeing on .........and the A/C ...heck ...the whole climate controll is switched off.
I am egar to hear the findings of this as well

Before the AC was removed, there was a two-wire connector with a blue and a black/white wire that connected to the AC pressure switch along the right subframe rail. The hblue wire needs to be grounded to the black/white wire to keep the electric fan from running constantly. This will happen despite the position of the HVAC control switches.
In this picture of Traxion's car, these wires would have plugged into an aluminum looking tube. The tube runs along the engine bay in the area circled. The a/c pressure switch is near where the arrow is drawn. If your a/c system has been removed, the connector may have been unplugged and left somewhere around that area.
ok, ok, so I can't post pictures anymore. still working on it.
