What causes backfiring during acceleration?

I think its from a lean condition.

Also, would a bad ECM on an LG4 have too much of an effect?

And, whats that ticking noise i always hear under acceleration?

Thanks

Is it a steady pop pop pop pop pop

ONLY when on the throttle.

Or is it just a pop and then its OK.??

Its just an occasional pop.

Only when under load also. No popping just reving. I got it to stop a little bumping up the timing.

Yeah theres a ticking in the valve train area, and someone else suggested a valve spring.

Thanks

My car does that when I apply throttle at less than 2000 rpms and it gets worse as it heats up. It becomes unbearable after a half hour or more of driving. What are all the causes to check in order to fix this? thanks

Whats wrong with you people?

My previous Camaro ('85 MPFI V6) use to do the pop when I floored it. As it began to run worse I took it in for a tune up. The mechanic figured I had water in my fuel tank, threw in a bottle of water-b-gone and a new fuel filter and it ran great after with no pops. It could be that simple! Later, Teddy Z '84Z28
